The Location
The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort is located on Vommuli Island in the southern part of the Maldives and one of only a handful of resorts in the Dhaalu Atoll. Accessible via a 50-minute seaplane flight from Malé, the journey offers a scenic introduction to the beauty of this atoll.
The island combines dense tropical vegetation, wide stretches of white sand beach, and a turquoise lagoon that surrounds the property on all sides. The resort also features a house reef, making it ideal for snorkeling and marine exploration. The overall setting is quiet and secluded, offering a sense of escape that’s well-suited for travelers looking to unwind in a peaceful, natural environment.

The Transfer & Check-in
As we were arriving from another island, our transfer to The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort began with a warm welcome by the resort’s airport representative. He met us at the seaplane terminal, handled the check-in process on our behalf, and guided us to the resort’s private lounge, The Great Room. This exclusive space, reserved only for St. Regis guests, offered an elegant setting to relax before the flight.
While waiting for our departure, we enjoyed a generous breakfast spread with freshly brewed coffee, teas, tropical juices, and a tempting selection of pastries and signature dishes, which you can choose from a selected menu. Everything was genuinely delicious. A particularly thoughtful touch was the personalized video introduction from our butler, a signature gesture unique to the St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort.

The departure timing was also handled flawlessly. We were escorted to the seaplane departure room just in time for boarding without any idle waiting. Upon arrival at the island, our butler was already waiting to welcome us and we were offered cool towels and fresh coconuts, setting a refreshing tone for what was to come.
Before heading to our villa, we did a short tour of the island and a got an overview of the resort’s facilities. Once at the villa, our butler took the time to explain the room’s features in detail. What followed was another unexpected and personal surprise: a welcome note, a printed photo of us which taken earlier in the lounge, and a bathtub decorated with flowers. The experience was topped off with a tray of gourmet welcome snacks and a chilled bottle of champagne – a perfect start to our stay.

The Property & Amenities
The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort is a visually striking property where contemporary design meets artistic interpretation of marine life and local culture. Every structure on the island reflects thoughtful architectural storytelling: the overwater villas are shaped like manta rays, the Whale Bar resembles a whale shark gliding over the ocean, the beach villas are built like fisherman huts, and the Iridium Spa is designed in the shape of a lobster. Even the Library takes inspiration from a spiral conch shell. As a design and architecture lover, this resort truly is a dream – I loved all the details.
The resort’s facilities are concentrated on a compact island, offering both intimacy and ease of access. A separate open-style butler desk ensures discreet and personalized service, while a buggy system and bicycles help guests navigate the island at their own pace. I really loved exploring the island by bike – it’s by far my favorite way of island transportation.
At the center of the island lies Vommuli House, an all-in-one activity center surrounded by dense tropical greenery. It includes a fully equipped exercise room, yoga and meditation studio, a hair and beauty salon, and a kids’ club. Next to it, you’ll find an organic garden and a tennis court.
For socializing, there’s Socialite, a casual space with table tennis and games. The resort also features a large infinity pool with a children’s pool right by its side, a PADI-certified dive and water sports center, and two on-site boutiques: the St. Regis Boutique and IVAR, which showcases fine jewelry. With seven diverse restaurants spread across the island, guests have no shortage of culinary options.
Whether you’re looking to relax, recharge, or explore, the resort offers everything needed for a seamless and indulgent Maldivian holiday.

The Rooms
The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort features 77 elegant villas, designed to offer the perfect balance between privacy, comfort, and island sophistication. Guests can choose between 44 overwater villas extending gracefully into the lagoon on the island’s northwestern side, and 33 beach and garden villas set amid lush tropical vegetation. Each villa comes with a private pool and either uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean or tranquil garden surroundings.
While most of the villas are one-bedroom retreats ideal for couples or solo travelers, the resort also offers a range of two-bedroom options, including the beachfront Knickerbocker Villa and Cesar Balsa Villa. For those seeking ultimate privacy or traveling with family or friends, the resort’s two three-bedroom estates – The Caroline Astor Estate on the beach and The John Jacob Astor Estate over water – deliver unmatched space and exclusivity.
During our stay, we had the chance to experience both a beach villa with direct access to the lagoon and an overwater villa with sweeping views of the ocean. Let me tell you more about the rooms that made our time on the island truly unforgettable.
Beach Villa with Pool
Our stay at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli started in a Beach Villa with Pool, a luxurious one-bedroom villa just steps from the beach, designed to reflect the shape of a traditional Maldivian fisherman’s hut. The high ceilings, along with panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, filled the 140-square-meter space with natural light and offered uninterrupted views. The villa’s thoughtful layout was divided into three distinct areas: the bedroom, the bathroom, and a spacious outdoor deck.
Inside, a comfortable king-size bed faced the ocean, framed by a cozy daybed, an armchair with ottoman, and a sofa. A working desk, a well-stocked minibar, a tea and coffee station, and a wine fridge added to the villa’s comfort. Moreover, everything from lighting to temperature to curtains could be adjusted through an in-room iPad.
The marble bathroom was equally well appointed, with two vanities, large mirrors, and a separate makeup mirror. The free-standing bathtub and the separate walk-in rain shower were complemented by a generous outdoor shower designed for two. Open wardrobes provided ample storage, and every amenity from toiletries to towels was exactly where you needed it to be.

The outdoor space included the private pool, a lounge bed, a small dining table with chairs, and sun loungers under a large umbrella by the beach. Whether we were reading in the shade, taking a dip in the pool, or simply soaking in the serenity, this villa felt like a private slice of paradise.

Overwater Villa with Pool
After two nights in our beach villa, we moved to an Overwater Villa with Pool, and the shift in setting brought a completely different experience, one we always find hard to beat. Set above the calm turquoise waters of the lagoon, this villa offered uninterrupted ocean views through a wall of floor-to-ceiling glass that ran the entire length of the 182-square-meter space. Waking up to the sight and sound of the water was nothing short of mesmerizing.
Inside, the layout was both spacious and functional. A plush king-size bed faced the horizon, while a separate living area included a sofa, a rocking chair with ottoman, a writing desk, and a TV. Behind the bed, a large walk-in wardrobe, complete with a dressing desk, provided generous storage. The minibar was stocked with a variety of snacks, and the tea and coffee station, along with a wine fridge, made it easy to enjoy quiet moments without ever leaving the room.
The marble bathroom mirrored the villa’s clean and open aesthetic, with double vanities, a rain shower, and a freestanding bathtub.
The private outside deck was the cherry on top. In addition to the large pool and a lounge bed, it featured a dining area, sun loungers, and four overwater nets suspended above the lagoon, perfect for relaxing just inches above the water. A small ladder led directly into the sea, inviting spontaneous swims throughout the day.
While we loved the comfort and privacy of the beach villa, there’s something truly special about an overwater stay. Lounging on a hammock with nothing but the ocean breeze and the sound of waves below is an experience that’s hard to match.

The Restaurants & Bars
Dining at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort is far more than a necessity, it’s a journey through some of the finest cuisines from around the world. With seven distinct dining venues spread across the island, every meal felt like an invitation to indulge, whether in elegant surroundings or with your feet in the sand. The quality of the food consistently impressed us. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. Without question, this was among the best culinary experiences we’ve had in the Maldives.
ALBA, the resort’s signature restaurant, is where you’ll start your day. Set in a relaxed alfresco pavilion, it serves a sumptuous breakfast buffet along with à la carte options. The variety was nearly overwhelming (in the best way) with everything from tropical fruits and pastries to fresh egg dishes, international specialties, and wellness-focused choices. ALBA also serves lunch and dinner, blending Italian, Indian, and Arabic influences into a menu that consistently delivered on taste.
Beneath ALBA lies Decanter, an intimate underground wine cellar offering a five-course private dining experience paired with carefully selected wines. It’s a unique setting – elegant and unexpected – perfect for a special occasion.
For fans of Pan-Asian cuisine like us, Orientale is a standout. The sushi was fresh and delicate, and we loved sitting at the front in the heavy-set chairs, enjoying the light breeze and open-air atmosphere. If you’re in the mood for something more refined, T•Pan offers a modern take on Kaiseki, where each course highlights flavor, balance, and seasonal ingredients in true Japanese style.
For something casual, Crust & Craft sits right on the beach and serves pizzas, burgers, and sandwiches, perfect for a laid-back lunch between swims. Cargo, the inland restaurant set within the island’s lush gardens, was temporarily closed during our stay. Once reopened, it will focus on regional cuisine from the Maldives, India, and Sri Lanka, and be an exciting alternative to beachfront dining.
Our evenings usually began at The Whale Bar, the resort’s iconic overwater bar shaped like a whale shark. At 6:30 p.m., guests are invited to a signature martini cocktail, followed by the famous sabrage ritual, a celebratory uncorking of champagne with a saber that usually takes place around sunset. The Art of Sabrage a signature ceremony of St. Regis hotels around the world and inspired by Napoleon and his officers who opened bottles of champagne with their sabers after their battles. The Whale Bar also offers an à la carte tapas-style menu and an elegant dinner setting over the water.
There’s also a poolside bar next to Crust & Craft, making it easy to grab a refreshing drink without leaving the beach or your sun lounger.
For those looking to enjoy private or unique dining experiences, the resort offers in-villa dining, romantic beach dinners, floating breakfasts, and even picnics on remote sandbanks. These bespoke experiences add another layer of indulgence and intimacy to your stay.
As passionate food lovers, we were especially excited by The Tastemaker Series, a culinary initiative that brings world-renowned chefs to the island. During our visit, we had the pleasure of attending a Diwali dinner curated by celebrated Indian chef Surjan Singh, also known as Chef Jolly. His refined interpretations of classic Indian dishes were bold, flavorful, and unforgettable, an absolute highlight of our culinary journey at St. Regis.

The Staff
The service at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort was nothing short of exceptional and matching, if not exceeding, the high standards one would expect at a resort of this level. From the moment we arrived at the seaplane terminal, we felt genuinely cared for. Every interaction, whether with our butler, the villa attendants, the management, or the restaurant teams, was warm, professional, and personalized. It never felt scripted, just sincere hospitality.
Our personal butler provided flawless service throughout our stay, attending to every detail with quiet efficiency and care. Whether it was managing reservations, arranging activities, taking care of our schedule, or responding to small requests, everything was handled swiftly and seamlessly.
Moreover, our villa attendants added personal touches we won’t forget. Every morning and evening, they left handwritten notes and surprised us with beautiful floral decorations on the bed and in the bathtub. Small gestures that made a big impact.
At the restaurants, the service was consistently excellent. Every member of the team always made time for a genuine conversation and anticipated our preferences, creating a welcoming and familiar atmosphere every time we dined.
Another thing we noticed and appreciated throughout the stay was how every staff member greeted us in passing, even buggy drivers would pause and wait on the side of the path just to let us walk by first. It’s that kind of thoughtful detail that defines the St. Regis experience.

Activities
Whether you’re looking for active adventure or relaxed exploration, The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort offers a wide variety of experiences to enrich your stay. The resort provides a weekly activity schedule, making it easy to plan around yoga sessions, fitness classes, or water sports. There’s truly something for every interest.
At the Dive and Water Sports Center, you can choose from a broad range of water-based activities, both motorized and non-motorized. From jet skiing and wakeboarding to stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, and windsurfing, the options are extensive. The center also offers guided excursions such as dolphin cruises, sunset fishing, and turtle quests. For those who prefer to explore the underwater world, snorkeling gear is available, and scuba diving is offered through the resort’s PADI-certified dive center, perfect for both beginners and experienced divers.
Fitness lovers will appreciate the fully equipped gym, complete with a personal trainer, as well as a complimentary outdoor tennis court where everything from racquets to towels is already prepared for you. For a more mindful movement practice, the Yogasala – an open-air pavilion tucked within the island – hosts regular yoga and anti-gravity yoga sessions, with private classes also available.
One of the standout experiences for us was spending time aboard Norma, the resort’s private luxury yacht. Elegant and beautifully appointed, Norma can be chartered for private excursions or even used as a stylish mode of transfer to and from Velana International Airport. We had the chance to take her out around the neighboring islands, and it was an unforgettable way to see the Maldives from a different perspective.

Spa & Wellness
The award-winning Iridium Spa at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort offers a serene space dedicated to holistic wellness and deep relaxation. Designed in the shape of a lobster, it’s one of the most distinctive spas in the Maldives, and it more than lives up to its visual promise.
The spa features six treatment rooms, two of which are dedicated to Ayurvedic healing therapies. Each space is equipped with panoramic ocean views and opens onto a private terrace complete with a bathtub, making the environment feel both intimate and serene. The treatment menu includes a broad range of massages, body scrubs and wraps, facials, and signature rituals, all aimed at restoring balance and enhancing well-being.
A standout feature of the Iridium Spa is the Blue Hole, a seawater hydrotherapy pool with targeted whirlpool jets designed to relieve tension from head to toe. It’s the largest of its kind in the Maldives and an experience not to be missed. While the steam room and sauna are located within the changing rooms rather than in the shared space (which we would’ve preferred as a couple), they still provide a welcome addition to the overall wellness offering.
Apart from an hour at the Blue Hole, we also enjoyed their 60-minute Iridium Signature Massage, and it was every bit as indulgent as expected. After a soothing welcome ritual that included a foot scrub, we enjoyed a deeply relaxing full-body massage tailored to our individual preferences. The treatment ended with a cup of hot ginger tea in the spa lounge, leaving us fully refreshed and re-centered.

Sustainability
Sustainability is an important part of The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, where luxury and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. The resort has implemented a range of eco-friendly practices focused on energy and water conservation, waste reduction, and local sourcing to minimize its ecological footprint.
One of these initiatives is the resort’s on-site water bottling plant, which helps eliminate the use of single-use plastic bottles. For every bottle sold, a donation is made to the Blue Fund, supporting reef rejuvenation efforts in the surrounding marine ecosystem. Waste is further minimized through recycling programs and organic composting, helping reduce landfill contributions and support the island’s natural environment.
The resort also makes a conscious effort to source local and sustainable ingredients, including produce grown in its own organic garden. These practices are seamlessly integrated into daily operations, allowing guests to enjoy a high-end experience while contributing to environmental conservation.

The One Unique Thing
The one unique thing that sets The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort apart is its exceptional butler service, a hallmark of the brand. With a dedicated team of around 25 butlers on the island, the service operates at a remarkable ratio of one butler for every three villas. But it’s not just the numbers that impress, it’s the genuine care, attention to detail, and intuitive service that elevate the experience to something unforgettable.
Our butler, Mahir, was simply the best butler we’ve ever had. From the moment we received his personalized video introduction before our arrival, we knew we were in good hands. Throughout our stay, he was always one step ahead, anticipating our needs before we even voiced them. When we asked for a small wooden basket to take some photos in their organic garden, he didn’t just bring the basket – he even decorated it beautifully with fresh flowers. When we changed villas mid-stay, he also offered to pack and unpack our luggage.
One of the most memorable moments was when he surprised us by setting up a private sabrage ritual session. Not only did he prepare everything in advance – the champagne was chilled, the saber was ready, and the scene was complemented with flowers – but he also guided Carsten through the ritual himself. It wasn’t something we’d requested; it was simply Mahir going above and beyond, creating a moment we’ll never forget.

Conclusion
The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort is a true gem in the Indian Ocean, offering an unforgettable escape that blends contemporary design, world-class service, and the natural beauty of the Maldives. From the stunning villas to the outstanding culinary offerings and the many moments of personalized luxury, our stay was exceptional in every way. The butler service set a new benchmark for hospitality, and the warmth and attentiveness of the staff made us feel genuinely valued throughout our stay. Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, a honeymoon, or a luxury family holiday, this resort delivers on every level. Without a doubt, The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli is one of the best resorts we’ve experienced in the Maldives, and one we would return to without hesitation.
